What to do When Sexually assaulted

What is S.A.N.E.?

Our SANE nurses are specially trained in medical forensic care of patients who have been sexually assaulted. They are trained to care for your injuries and collect evidence of the offender. They can also direct you to available support services. All services are free and confidential. Services are available all day, seven days a week, for adults and children of all genders.

The SANE Program includes:

You do NOT have to go through this alone We are here to help.

What to Expect?

You will speak with a SANE nurse privately about any help you may need. This may include learning about support services and planning for your safety.

If you’d like to report the crime the SANE nurse or advocate can help you. You may be asked questions about the incident at this time to help the SANE nurse collect the most effective data. You can still have a free evidence collection exam even if you do not want to report the assault to law enforcement or press charges.

If you choose, a SANE nurse will gather evidence of the sexual assault. This may include having pictures taken; clothing collected; and providing hair, blood, urine, or other samples. The SANE nurse provides any evidence to law enforcement.
